The sisters and their servants find themselves passing time by recalling past adventures and travels from their childhood in 1860s Chicago, as well as key moments leading them to their present circumstances. How did they get to the desert? What do they hope to find? Will God's will be on their side, as it has in the past?...
Filled with period-accurate theological debates on evolution and scientific evidences into the accuracy of the Bible, Lynn has presented a vivid window into the case for Christianity during the designated era.
I found the story to be relatively slow in sections while being vivid enough that parts read more like a screenplay than a novel. Also, while the book is divided into parts for each of the main characters, the entire book is written in the third person and only a few very small scenes repeat from a different person's perspective. Overall, you get a full picture of each scene as it plays out, regardless as to which character the focus is supposed to be on.
I think this is a good historical novel for anyone interested in the time period and the scientific dilemma imposed on Christians during the era. 3/5 stars.
